What to know before anti-wrinkle treatment

Anti-wrinkle treatments with muscle relaxants or botulinum toxin, are becoming increasingly popular. In addition to smoothing wrinkles in the upper half of the face, muscle relaxants can also be used to visually narrow the face, raise eyebrows, or treat gummy smiles.
We explain below what to look for and what to know before undergoing treatment with muscle relaxants.

#1 There is no perfect time to start anti-wrinkle treatments

Prevent wrinkles early or treat them after they’re already there? Which approach is the right one? In general, there is no right or wrong time to start anti-wrinkle treatments. It’s up to each person to decide for themselves.
The only difference is the amount of muscle relaxant needed. People who start to prevent wrinkles in their 20s or 30s need a smaller amount of muscle relaxant than people in their forties or fifties. This is because it takes more product already existing wrinkles.
Fortunately, it does not matter at what age you start: the miracle drug muscle relaxant always achieves an effect!

#2 The consultation is the be-all and end-all

Having a trusted doctor that you feel comfortable with is extremely important when it comes to aesthetic treatments. The doctor must understand your individual beauty goals and advise you according to your personal needs. At M1 Med Beauty, all doctors specialize in Aesthetic Medicine and can work with you to achieve your individual wishes.

#3 The result is visible after 5-10 days

Unlike treatments with hyaluronic acid, the result of a treatment with muscle relaxant occurs only after an “exposure time” of 5 to 10 days. The final result can be seen after 14 days at the latest. The reasoning behind this is that the effect of the muscle relaxants must first unfold before the muscles are paralyzed and the wrinkles smoothed.
How long the results last varies from person to person. Factors such as one’s metabolism, lifestyle, and diet influence durability.

#4 The right preparation

Bruising, redness and swelling are normal immediately after treatment. To minimize these, the following medications and agents should be avoided for two weeks prior to the treatment appointment:

  • Blood thinning medications (Such as ibuprofen and aspirin).
  • Vaccinations (esp. no covid vaccine).
  • Ginko preparations

Alcohol and make-up should be avoided on the day of treatment. For more information about pre- and post-treatment care, please see our rules of conduct.
