The hyaluronic acid fillers in the test.

The decision is made: finally there should be an end to the tired appearance or the angry look that does not fit your attitude to life. Now it’s a matter of finding the right doctor and the right products for the treatment. Dermatologist Dr. Marion Runnebaum explains in a podcast interview what you should definitely pay attention to. The expert for aesthetic dermatology answers in detail all questions about hyaluron fillers in the test, treatment methods and results as well as risks and side effects.

First of all, the question: How do you find the right doctor?

“This is not at all easy to answer because the market has become so confusing. Patients find it difficult to distinguish: is the doctor a good doctor, a good injector (this is the name given to doctors who regularly perform filler treatments (editor’s note), and does he have an aesthetic sensibility? The medical specialty alone is not decisive, but dermatologists and plastic surgeons should be preferred because of their in-depth training. From my point of view, however, what is most important is the experience and frequency of filler treatments.”

How important is the consultation?

“Before every procedure, there is a detailed discussion with the doctor. Patients can and should prepare themselves for this. A serious initial consultation can be recognized, among other things, by how openly the doctor talks about possible side effects or downtime. After all, there is no treatment where something could not go wrong. Therefore, always ask about the ‘worst case’, about possible side effects and concomitant symptoms. Also address their fears and concerns.”

Why is it so important to be treated by a doctor and not by a beautician or alternative practitioner?

“Treatments with hyaluronic acid fillers are minimally invasive, but side effects can occur. At the latest then sound experience with the anatomy becomes important. In case of complications, neither the alternative practitioner nor the cosmetician can react.”

How important is the sense of aesthetics?

“From my point of view, this is also quite essential for the success of a treatment. In addition to medical expertise, the doctor’s aesthetic standards are very important. Therefore, be sure to ask to see before-and-after photos of treated patients. From them, you are most likely to recognize his aesthetic approach.”

The result depends to a large extent on the quality of the hyaluronic acid filler. What distinguishes high-quality fillers?

“It is not easy to find your way through the jungle of hyaluronic acid fillers. There are over 300 hyaluronic acid products in Germany. It is best to work with preparations that can demonstrate a well-founded study situation. Patients should ask about this.”

Hyaluron filler in the test – what were your decision criteria?

“I was allowed to participate in a study by the Allergan company. The production facility in Switzerland alone is impressive. There are also now over 1000 studies on Allergan products that demonstrate safety and durability.”

Which zones on the face can be optimized with hyaluronic acid fillers?

“In principle, you can treat any area of the face. This is also called ‘full face treatment.’ However, this is not possible with just one filler. Each area of the face, such as the eyes, cheeks, chin or lips, should be treated with a specially created filler.”

What role does naturalness play?

“Nobody wants to look ‘done’ today. From there, a natural result is the ultimate goal of every treatment. And that’s exactly what you need JuvĂ©derm’s modern filler generation for.”

How exactly does a treatment work?

“I first ask my patients for three desires to be improved. Emotional attributes such as ‘I want to look less sad or less angry’ are also addressed. The Allergan company has done a fantastic job of this, and by working with internationally renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Mauricio de Maio, they have also worked out the emotional reasons for filler treatments. Then, depending on the initial situation, different fillers are used.”

And the cost?

“Depending on the number of injection points, from 500 euros.”
