3 Things to Know Before Lip Augmentation

One of the most popular treatments when it comes to aesthetic medicine is lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid. Since the lips are located in the center of our face, they have a great influence on our overall appearance. If you are not satisfied with the shape or size of your lips, this can negatively affect your self-confidence.

It is therefore no wonder that more and more people are opting for lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid to give their lips more volume and contour.

However, there are some things that you should know even before an injection to get the perfect result. What these are and how to prepare perfectly for a lip injection, we reveal in the following!

#1 Less is more

When it comes to fillers, it’s better to take it slow – especially for lips. This can avoid the phenomenon of overly filled lips or even “inflatable lips” as a final result and strive for a natural result. True to the motto: less is more. A touch-up after a few weeks can help if the lips are still too narrow after the first treatment.

#2 Swelling is quite normal

It is important to note that the final result can only be seen after a few days, when the lips are swollen down. They may also feel slightly sore at that time. But do not worry: this is completely normal. After 2-3 days the feeling will be gone and the result can be seen. There may be increased small bruises and redness because the hyaluronic acid is injected with a needle or cannula. However, these can be minimized by preparing well for the treatment appointment.

#3 Preparation is the key

In the week leading up to the treatment appointment, do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatories (e.g., ibuprofen), fish oil, or as little vitamin E as possible. All of these medications or vitamins thin the blood and, because of this effect, increase the likelihood of bruising after treatment. In addition, alcohol and nicotine should be avoided for 24 hours before and after treatment to minimize swelling.
